Understanding the basics

Terms:
  • Blockchain - a system of recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change.
    Ex. The technology that secures the Bitcoin and Ethereum cryptocurrencies
  • Ethereum - a decentralized platform for building stuff, secured by blockchain technology.
    Ex. Decentralized apps like Uniswap
  • Smart Contract - The technology that gives Ethereum it's functionality. Also facilitates creating things on the ethereum blockchain
    Ex. You can create Non-fungible tokens with smart contracts
  • Non-fungible Token - A special type of smart contract that represents an item published to the blockchain. Often used to show proof of ownership.
    Ex. NFTs of: Images, blueprints, patents, website URLs, ect.
  • Matamask - A browser extention that allows you to interact with the Ethereum blockchain. Also acts as an ethereum cryptocurrency wallet that facilitates transactions.
    Ex. Check out Metamask.io
  • Ethereum Cryptocurrency - denominated in ETH. The fuel that runs the Ethereum blockchain, used as a form of payment as well as paying gas fees.
    Ex. I can send you 1 ETH, from my metamask wallet to yours.
  • Gas Fees - Variable. The cost of using the Ethereum blockchain. Similar to a vendor being charged by Visa for accepting credit card payments
    Ex. When I send you money, I have to pay a gas fee

    Installing MetaMask

    MetaMask is a browser extension that is compatible with any modern web browser. While your on their website, take some time to look around and familiarize yourserlf with its functionalities. Then, download the extension and follow the setup procedure.
    Dont forget to write down youre seed phrase when you get it

    Funding your wallet

    Sassy Succulents are made on the Ethereum blockchain. This means that you have to buy them and pay for gas fees using Ethereum's native currency "ETH". We are now going to add some ETH to your new MetaMask wallet.

  • Head over to a cryptocurrency exchange like
    Coinbase
    and set up a new account or log in if you have one already
  • Click the "Buy/Sell" button in the navigation bar and select "Ethereum" in the dropdown box.
  • Determine how much you would like to purchase based on how many Succulents you would like to buy.

    *For reference, each succulent is priced at 0.02 ETH and the current price of ETH is $0. That means each one will cost you about $0.00. Keep in mind you will have to pay a gas fee as well. It's typical to reserve roughly $100 worth of ETH for your gas costs (though it probably wont all get used)
  • After your purchase is complete, its time to transfer your ETH to MetaMask. Open up your MetaMask extension by clicking the fox icon in the top right of your browser, or in the extensions menu of your dropdown. Log In.
  • Once your logged in you should see the name of your account, with your wallet address underneath. It should look like this:

    Click on your wallet address to copy it to your clipboard.
  • Head back to coinbase and click the "Send/Recieve" button in the top right. Search for Ethereum on the list of currencies.
  • Paste the address you just copied into the "To" box. Double check that the address matches the one from your metamask wallet.
  • Enter the amount of ETH that you just purchased. Verify that the "pay with" has Ethereum selected and that your wallet address is unchanged.
  • Click Continue. Check one last time that everything is correct. Send and Wait.

    Buying your Sassy Succulent

    Now for the fun part!

  • Connect your MetaMask wallet by clicking the "Connect Wallet with Metamask" button
  • Choose how many Sassy Succulents you would like to grow.
  • Click the "Grow" button
  • Confirm with the MetaMask popup to submit your purchase to the blockchain

    Wrapping up

    Wait for your transaction to be confirmed. You can view the state of purchase by going to

    EtherScan.io

    and pasting your MetaMask address in the search bar. On the bottom of the page you will see your transaction history.
    When the transaction has confirmed, you always can find your Sassy Succulent by going to

    OpenSea.io

    And connecting your MetaMask wallet.
